How to Celebrate the Fourth of July in Costa Rica

According to the U.S. State Department, about 120,000 Americans live permanently in Costa Rica, and around one million visit the country annually. Many of them are flocking to the country’s tropical beaches.

For many expats, the 4^th of July can bring feelings of homesickness. Don’t fret! Throughout Costa Rica you can find a close knit community of Americans living the Pura Vida lifestyle and still enjoying close ties to their homeland.

There are several places to celebrate 4^th of July the old fashioned way with BBQ food, great music, and of course fireworks.

One of the best places to celebrate the holiday is at the Los Sueños Beach Club located at Los Sueños Resort and Marina. Los Sueños is a luxury real estate development on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast and is known to be the gateway to incredible inshore adventures and some the best offshore marlin fishery in the world. The majority of property owners hail from all parts of the United States and either live full time in Costa Rica or own a vacation home here. Los Sueños attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year. Many of the condos and houses for sale are also available for vacation rentals. With 2019’s 4^th of July falling on a Thursday, a long weekend at the beach sounds tempting. The nearby beach towns of Jaco and Playa Hermosa are also very popular amongst expats and visitors alike. On the 4^th of July, the whole foreign community comes together to celebrate a day in traditional red, white, and blue at the Los Sueños Beach Club. Keep in mind, Costa Rica’s national colors are the same and many Ticos (nickname for Costa Ricans) join in the celebration each year.

The Los Sueños Beach Club is typically a private facility but will open its gates to the public on the 4^th of July, starting at 4:30 pm. The celebration kicks off with live music by The Golden Band. The poolside restaurant Al Fresco will serve a special menu, including the most delectable BBQ ribs. The fireworks spectacle will start at 7:00 pm and entrance is free.
